Senator Vince Leach, TCFC, Pima County & Medical Experts, with Bi-Partisan Support move SB1257 through the AZ Senate
- TCFC thanks Senator Vince Leach for his support and willingness to sponsor SB1257. SB1257 is gaining more-and-more Bi-Partisan support everyday!!
-
SB1257 is a bill drafted in a collaboration with TCFC, Pima County, Psychiatrists working in the substance use disorder field, and Pima County Legal Experts. Amendments are now being integrated from the ACLU, other AZ Counties and the Arizona Psychiatric Society. The Arizona Psychiatric Society is actively supporting SB1257.
-
It NARROWLY focuses on those that are already in custody and are already in the PIMA COUNTY CRISIS RESPONSE CENTER. These people have already been determined to be a danger to themselves or others and are in an active life-critical crisis. This is optional to other counties including rural if they don't have resources.
-
It provides another option to save the lives for those that are under the influence of a substance, with no mental illness, and surrounds these persons with medical treatment and time to stabilize for up to 5 calendar days with hope for personal decision making opportunities and transition to long-term treatment service options. It contains all the same civil liberty and due process protections under the current Title 36 Arizona Law. THIS BILL CAN SAVE LIVES and MONEY by reducing the number of "FREQUENT FLYERS."
- Under current AZ law, if a person has substance use disorder with no mental illness and is IN AN ACTIVE LIFE THREATENING CRISIS, they must be released still under the influence, within 23hours, 59minutes and 59sec of being picked up. This is true even if they are "high-as-a-kite" on Meth. Medical experts say it can take up to 5 days to detox from Meth. Unfortunately these are people that are part of the record pedestrian deaths walking into cars in 2024. Arizona is only 1 of 15 states that let people go who are high on a substance and allow them to walk into cars creating at least 2 victims. Surprisingly, California is one of the other 35 who do hold people.
As of March 1st, SB1257 currently passed the Judiciary, Appropriations and Rules Committees. Next is adding amendments requested by the ACLU and Arizona Counties Association and the AZ Psychiatric Society and it's off to the full Senate.

Mayor & Council using TPD and SWAT to Influence Prop 414 Passage
Tucson Crime Free made the Media aware that Mayor and Council are using city resources to influence the passage of Prop 414 which is against Arizona Law.
A email was obtained by TCFC from a TPD Lieutenant.
"The post has a confirmed email attached from a Tucson Police lieutenant asking for two officers and one community service officer to accompany him to talk to people about Prop 414 at the February 15, 2025 Vail Pride event using a SWAT display."

March 5th is the deadline to mail in ballots. If you aren’t in the fight, you can’t complain about the outcome!
Looks like City of Tucson failed in several ways regarding affordable housing. You cannot serve good but poor people by allowing criminal elements to take over . City owned property should have been protected just as other government buildings are cared for. People given housing preference should pass some of the criteria private landlords require especially regarding background checks. Property owner (City of Tucson)must keep criminal elements away from the property in order to provide safe housing for people needing a hand up. What happened to their slogan:“Thrive in 05”?
When it comes to corruption, wasteful spending and failures, they’re really good at it
