FAILED CITY POLICIES: A Horrific Death; NO ON Prop 414; City Changing Ordinances to Sidestep Prop 312?

A HORRIFIC DEATH ON TUCSON STREETS, WITNESSED BY A TCFC MEMBER
Story Submitted by a Tucson Crime Free Coalition Member/Witness:
On February 6th at approximately 7pm, I came across a horrific sight while driving northbound on Oracle after a long day at work. A vehicle in front of me fatally struck a pedestrian directly across the street from the Evergreen Cemetery. The driver fled and continued one block down before coming to a stop after crashing into 2 additional vehicles.
Seeing a body on Oracle, I immediately got out of my vehicle to render first aid. A priest traveling ahead of me, Canon, Bryan Silvey, had already gotten out of his car to administer last rites. Canon Silvey asked me and other witnesses to join him in silent prayer for the victim.
In this very moment, Tucson’s realities came together on Oracle Road, in a horrific scene. The local media failed to report any of the details beyond what was contained in a police department press release. Here is additional information, exclusively provided by TCFC:
- The driver, Juan Carlos Urquidez, 21, was driving the under the influence at 7pm and arrested.
-
Like most fatally struck pedestrians, Antonio Benjamin Dorame, 25, was found with drug paraphernalia near his body. The deceased, released from prison in 2023, has a long criminal record in Pima County:
-
Courtesy of multiple sweetheart plea agreements offered by Soft-on-Crime, Pima County Attorney Laura Conover, Dorame was in and out of trouble his entire adult life, and should have been in prison at the time of his death at age 25:
- Charges from the past 7 years include: shoplifting, organized retail theft, armed robbery, assaulting a health care professional and committing crimes while on probation. Weak plea agreements over numerous charges/trials allowed Dorame to continue his drug fueled lifestyle on/around Oracle Road.
- On February 4th, his probation was revoked by the court. 2 days later he was struck and killed.
- On February 11th, a week after his death, a warrant was issued for his arrest.

The majority of the streetlights on Oracle around Ft. Lowell and near the Evergreen Cemetery are dark due to copper theft. The exact spot where this fatality occurred is dark. 3 weeks later, those lights are still out.
Lawlessness abounds and apathy pervades. Other drivers who witnessed this incident were deeply shaken. For those who care including the other witnesses and Canon Silvey, thank you. May our community rally together to fight the evils of narcotics and an unresponsive government.
NO on PROP 414: A PROPOSTION THAT HURTS THE POOR THE MOST

There is a lot going on with The City of Tucson. Prop 312 passed because of Tucson Crime Free members. Please watch this video with Mayor Romero, City Attorney and City
Council. What do you think - are they cleaning up or changing existing ordinances that
they have failed to enforce?
The following are some examples of the Public Nuisance that the City has created by not following the laws that are currently in place.
● Illegal Camping or encampments/Loitering
● Panhandling
● Public Urination or defecation
● Possession/open use of illegal drugs
● Obstructing Public Thoroughfares
● Public Consumption of Alcoholic Beverages

It seems like the city is going to be doing a lot of work to try and change or clean up the
laws so they can keep promoting what is happening on our streets and on our property.
Please call 911 or 311 if you have these things happening on your property - residences or business. Keep a record of what you have called in or reported on line. Keep your receipts
of what you are doing to repair the damage that has been done by the city ignoring what
they should be doing about public nuisance items.
This is unsafe for the people living in dire situations that need help. It is inhumane to allow
these types of actions to continue. If the law was enforced some of the people that are
living with addiction or mental health would be getting the help that they need.
I DISAGREE with Louise Meeks!
Oh boy Denise Weeks is delulu. The city council is responsible for ensuring the safety of the community that elected them. So to your point, yeah, a specific city council person isn’t going to be out pulling cars over looking for drunks. It’s laughable that you hung your point, or lack there of, on that. Nobody expects that. People do expect those idiots to be in there doing what is best for the community at large. Make Tucson a desirable place to live. Make Tucson a desirable place to be a first responder. Don’t give free rides in the bus so people can jam across town to steal and get drugs. Stop taking traffic lanes for bicycles. Niche projects like this hurt the whole community. It IS their fault. Representing the best interests of their constituents literally is their job. But they don’t do it. By and large they cave to vocal radical fringe movements in a hugely embarrassing effort to virtue signal. These are the same people that block big business from coming into town in an effort to preserve small business, then turn a blind eye to small business when they raise a concern. Nobody should be surprised, but EVERYONE should be upset.
Denise- if you don’t like it, stop reading the blog. It seems that your biggest accomplishments are getting multiple degrees from second and third rate educational institutions and teaching at a community college. Stop throwing around insults, eat some humble pie and report back when you’re not at the absolute bottom of the educational system. Remember sweetie, you were an instructor at Pima Community College not Princeton.
This is all really simple. We’d guess 998-99% of us just want to live in peace, safely and securely. The basic function of government is to provide that safety and security so that we flourish as individuals and reach our goals. That requires we control those elements in our community that do not share our values, dreams and aspirations. This m&cc are not providing this. ZERO tolerance for drugs and the pubic nuisance violations mentioned above would be step one. We need the m&cc to publicly state that they want to provide us with the safety we desire and that they will demand ZERO tolerance enforcement by their police dept. No excuses, as long as they do their job, if we need to we can track who in the system is not doing their job. As it is, you are burdening your children and grandchildren with a very unsafe society, getting more dangerous as time goes. Your kids, when they can’t afford a home because their taxes are taken to support these miscreants, are going to ask you who you loved more? (Just as an aside, Sunday after leaving HomeDepot at Elcon, in the alley just north of the parking lot, a sight which is all too familiar: a gal lookout at the street, a guy leaning on a power pole in the act of shooting up and a guy lying on the ground in the middle of the alley). It’s getting worse and worse. Do our kids need to be exposed to this?
The City Council is completely responsible for law enforcement! It’s their job to collect taxes and provide public safety. The city bears much responsibility for what has happened to the 85705 zip code. We have been abandoned. We get no services. The only thing the city will do is pick up a shopping cart. I have been told repeatedly that it’s the homeowners job to clean the homeless refuse and their human waste in the alleys. They started a fire in the alley last week and the entire alley is littered with burnt foil with fentanyl on it. The police do not respond to our calls at all. It took 6 months to get a guy with warrants out for his arrest who was living in someone s back yard selling drugs. Try driving on fairview or limber lost. Your car shakes apart. To be clear. I am not placing any blame on tpd. They are doing the best they can. They are so understaffed. Instead of hiring more cops we have a city that tried to go into the internet business. They spent millions and it was a flop. They just paid for a study to take over tep! No one and I mean no one wants city of tucson to supply our electric! I don’t think we needed that one electric garbage truck! Fix the roads first!
