Some new, visible, TPD enforcement seen! Feb 19th, 2023,
Hello TCFC Members!
  • This week we have seen and had reports of TPD stepping up enforcement in SOME high crime areas.  And WE ARE PUSHING FOR MORE! No-one should fear enforcement. Nothing should stop the City and County from getting people into treatment.
  • We have confirmation that treatment beds are available.  Some Treatment providers are reporting they are only at 70% occupancy with 30% open beds. We know of a minimum of 140 open beds. With enforcement of our laws, and treatment available,  we expect personal accountability which will lead to a safer community.
  • TCFC is getting congressional attention, and had a seat at table (Josh Jacobsen) on a Bi-Partisan Roundtable this week with The US Speaker of the House and Congressman Juan Ciscomani discussing how Fentanyl is affecting Tucson and Pima County.  Josh shared how TCFC and its near 3000 members are exposing how our elected officials are pursuing failing policies.  TCFC is leading efforts for treatment and humanity but demanding accountability to enforce our laws.

    • Organized retail theft is on the rise with free Sun Tran buses as the getaway vehicle. At our monthly meeting with TPD detectives and retailers this week we heard from large retailers experiencing "Flash Mob" groups timing shoplifting with the Free Buses City of Tucson Mayor and Council support.  Riders tell us about awful experiences like people cooking meth on the bus as well as other criminal behavior.
    • Pima county is moving forward with “No Pandhandling Signs” being created and installed.  Thank you for your suggested locations. We will pursue City of Tucson intersections next and will report any progress.
    • We met with Judges and Superior Court representatives this week.  We discussed and gained a more clear understanding of how we can address limitations holding people accountable for crimes as well as the fact that the courts never see all the "refused" cases by our County Attorney Laura Conover.  The judges expressed support for the TCFC enhanced Transition Center at the Jail Annex on Mission Road.
    • TCFC met over at the Jail Annex with Non-profits in the treatment provider business and learned more about how to best work together to provide wrap-around services and how to best get people needing treatment into their programs so empty beds will come to an end when we have people that need them.

Google – “who financially benefits from the poverty industry?” Politicians get their friends to develop and manage these “Housing First” or “Shelter First” programs. Look on You Tube reference all the cities that tried and failed in the past 10 years (like Houston, Seattle, LA, Austin etc.etc.). A lot of these articles talk about how these local and state politicians earn campaign donations every election cycle from these friends they gave govt. contracts to. Look at these other failed programs and you will see the govt. corruption.

Example locally – Our drug users who are sober now say they detoxed in jail. These same past users say our programs are a JOKE. When they were doing drugs they were taken into CBI or CRC – get kicked out for bad behavior for just arguing with staff (because they are sick and grumpy) but CBI and CRC would still get paid by the taxpayers. CBI would say the clients bad behavior is based on a possible mental condition and CRC would kick them out for the day based on their bad behavior saying they are drug induced.

The mayor and council control TPD commanders purse-strings, commanders using their position and rank will say and do anything the mayor and council wants them to do because 99.5% of all TPD commanders do not live in the city.

In response to: “Riders tell us about awful experiences like people cooking meth on the bus as well as other criminal behavior”. The private management of SunTran has reduced or stopped the security on the bus like off-duty TPD officers. Hear it like it is, talk to the SunTran drivers, they have to put up with that abuse all day with out the support of the management.

The City of Tucson should install this safety feature which blocks panhandlers while still giving pedestrians legally crossing streets a safe refuge where traffic medians intersect with crosswalks:

Broadway+Alvernon, Broadway+Wilmot, Tanque Verde+Grant, Tanque Verde+Sabino Canyon need regular scrutiny to stop panhandlers from causing traffic hazards by standing in the streets holding big cardboard signs that drivers are reading instead of paying attention to driving.

      Keep up the good work!

Telling elected officials and highlighting their failures tends to upset them. There is no other way because asking nicely was not working.

What we need from everyone is:
      1. Stay engaged. Read the Blogs every week and keep up in case we need to CALL TO ACTION.
      2. Email me kevincdaily@yahoo.com if you have or know someone with a special skill or connection that may help the cause.
      3. Report crime by filing a police report even though you know that TPD is not going to respond because elected officials depend on you not reporting to justify their position of “what problem?”
      4. Call your ward office or supervisor district to complain about your issue and demand constituent service.
      5. Respond to our survey’s so we can get the info on specific topics
      6. Tell your friends and tell us your stories so we can share with appropriate people.

Keep the faith! We will turn this around one way or the other!
